Leadership is a strange beast. I think everyone says at some stage in the careers that “we need more leadership”. What does that really mean? Does it mean we need more tall males with confidence? Or that we need more vision? Or that the process are so dysfunctional that all we want is someone to stand up and fix them? Or do we need an emotional response to it all?
Who knows.
In class on Wednesday, about gender and sexuality with leadership, some people said they didnt think there was a problem with gender in the class. It was obvious that this was a cop out, an easy way to answer the question without thinking. I think it was demonstrated at the end that there were some people that had problems with gender and divesity, but some people refused to acknowledge or listen to the fact that there was a problem. It was intense. But the point was made. We listen only to those things that we want to, and that diverse views are often ignored.
The amount of spam splog traffic to this site is reaching astronomical proportions.
Options:
1) No change (ugggh)
2) Upgrade Wordpress (may or may not help)
3) Change post method to “must be registered user” (see 2)
Wouldn’t it be great if there was a way to monetize spam? Maybe by redirecting a spam link through a Google Adsense link
Hmmm…
What sort of negotiator are you? When I started negotiations I thought I was a bit of a rollover type of negotiator. In order to preserve a relationship I figure that the negotiation, or cost component of the negotiation was a secondary factor to the ongoing relationship.
This somewhat changed when I was on a holiday in Chiang Mai in Thailand. I was bartering for an obviously questionably fictional Breitling watch, and I failed to relent on what I thought was a ridiculously cheap price.
I got the watch for certainly less that what I thought.
However, the thing was that the dealer was equally if not more happy.
At that point I thought I was ripped off. I entered this competitive “someone has to lose so I can win” approach.
Now I understand that negotiation isn’t really about that. Its about collaboration as much as competition.
